Pool Maintenance

Dealing with Algae

If you start to see algae forming in your pool, the best thing to do is to super chlorinate (shock) your pool according to the instructions your particular brand of chemical. Wait one day, and then give your pool a dose of algaecide, following the weekly dose instructions on the bottle. Algae should die and turn brown. Vacuum the pool as necessary to clear the pool water. If algae persists, have your phosphate level checked and ask our staff about Pool First Aid by Natural Chemistry.

Weekly Maintenance

  • If water level is low, top up water through the skimmer and wait 8 hours before continuing
  • Vacuum pool and brush walls and steps
  • Backwash sand filters
  • Clean pump hair / lint basket and skimmer basket
  • Shock pool with Shock, Super Shock or Brite Plus
  • Add weekly maintenance doses of Wham-O and Cop-Out
  • Adjust alkalinity, pH, hardness, and stabilizer as necessary
  • Add chlorine pucks or granular chlorine as required
  • Use Clean & Perfect to clean around water line on pool wall to prevent chemical build-up
